Fred Bechtold (b. 1962 -); BA. Biology, Earlham College, 1986; JD., Stetson College of Law, 1990; The Atelier School of Fine Art Instruction, 2003.
After years of attending night classes at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota Florida, Fred Bechtold, a Florida lawyer, retired from legal practice to pursue what he claims is now “an honest career” in the Arts. In 1999 he moved to Minneapolis and studied at the Atelier School of Fine Art Instruction.
Fred works in a wide variety artistic mediums including, oil painting, etching, sculpture, woodworking and wood carving. He brings these disparate mediums together by focusing on his second great love in life, Ursus Americanus, the American Black Bear. Black Bears roam throughout Fred’s works, be they landscapes, still lives or portraiture. “I feel there are endless possibilities for an artist working with bears, and I want to explore them all,” says the Artist.
Fred Bechtold paints his bears in Hudson, Wisconsin, with his wife, the artist, Susan Heaven (his first great love). |
